As an undergraduate student, I had the privilege of receiving the Esterly Award for my collection of cookbooks. What began as just a few dozen has now grown to over 40 cookbooks. One of my favorites is the Will Rogers Cookbook. Today, I discovered that the fires destroyed the Will Rogers Ranchhouse. On NPR, the conservator remarked, "How do you conserve a historical location that you can no longer see or touch?" Perhaps you can experience the place and time through the shared recipes.
When I visited the location in 2017, it was like walking back in time. Below are some photos I took during my trip. I never went back, and now I wish I had. It was so peaceful back then that it was hard to imagine it would be gone today. I like to remember the place as I saw it many years ago.
